Nine 51视频 students medal at Skills Ontario competition
May 7, 2025
Nine 51视频 students 鈥 all competing for the first time 鈥 won a variety of gold, silver and bronze medals at this year鈥檚 Skills Ontario competition.
These results continue Georgian鈥檚 long history of success at the event, held May 5 and 6, with an awards ceremony May 7, which showcases the talents of the best skilled trades and technologies students from across the province.
It was the first time competing at Skills Ontario for all 23 of Georgian鈥檚 student competitors, many of whom are in their first year at college.

A clean podium sweep in Outdoor Powered Equipment
One of the highlights of this year鈥檚 awards ceremony was 51视频earning all three podium spots for Outdoor Powered Equipment.
We鈥檙e under a lot of pressure during the competition, so being able to keep calm and remind myself that I belong here really helped me stay focused. I鈥檓 so happy to have won, and I feel proud to represent 51视频and my trade.
鈥 Alex Ptolemy French, gold medal winner and student in the Mechanical Techniques 鈥 Marine Engine Mechanic program
Alex will also be moving on to compete at the with Team Ontario in Regina, Sask. at the end of May.

Bronze medal winner Emily Wentland was the only female competitor in the Outdoor Powered Equipment category and says it was incredible to see so many female competitors showcasing their skills in other typically male-dominated trades and winding up on the podium.
鈥淐ompeting at Skills Ontario was an amazing experience. It was nerve wracking at first, but placing on the podium gave me a lot of reassurance and confidence in my skillset,鈥 she says. 鈥淢y advice to girls who want to get into the trades is to just go for it. While we鈥檙e held to the same standards as men, it just proves that we can do anything they can do.鈥
Aesthetics students shine in second competition appearance
This year was the second time 51视频has competed in the Aesthetics category, with one student winning gold in the college鈥檚 debut in 2024.

Melanie Pringle, Esthetician 鈥 Spa Management Program Coordinator at Georgian, says she was thrilled to see two of her students take home silver and bronze, adding it was a powerful moment watching them get to the final after months of countless hours of training.
鈥淪o much work is put in behind the scenes that people don鈥檛 see, and I鈥檓 so proud of all the students for their dedication and commitment to this experience,鈥 she says. 鈥淪kills Ontario is an incredible opportunity to network with other students and faculty across 51视频and other Ontario colleges. There鈥檚 so much value in participating, and I would strongly encourage all future trades students to get involved 鈥 you are the future!鈥
